Exercise - Let's talk about how the team is working

Length:
30 minutes

This exercise simply asks you to set aside some time to talk together about the way you are working. It can be done as and when you feel you need to, or you could set aside 30 minutes on a once a month basis.

Remember, this conversation is about ‘how’ you are working as a team rather than the details of the day job. The tone should be constructive, open, and focused on finding solutions to any hindrances to effective team working. It will help to have agreed team ground rules to ensure the conversation hits the right note.

Here are some ideas that might start the discussion going:

  • Are we clear what we are trying to achieve together as a team?
  • Do we put enough emphasis on what our customers want?
  • Do we give an optimistic and confident way?
  • How good are we at influencing people outside the team (our stakeholders)
  • Are we clear about everyone’s roles and responsibilities?
  • Do we resolve any disagreements well?
  • Do we thank and support each other enough?
  • Do we manage performance well as a team, and hold each other to account?
  • Are we constantly trying to innovate?
