Exercise - Expressing gratitude

Expressing positive emotions helps you to broaden your awareness of the world around you and build resilience. Here's an exercise focussing on gratitude, but you can just as easily focus on joy, serenity, interest, hope, pride, amusement, inspiration, awe or love - or any other positive emotion you are feeling. You could keep your writing in a private journal to reflect on from time to time.

Write about three things you feel grateful for – spend 5-10 minutes at the end of day, writing about them.

Some tips:

  • Don't rush - take your time
  • Be specific
  • Give some detail
  • Mention how you feel
  • Smile gently as you write
