Exercise - Delivering continuous improvement

Length:
2 hours

The best way of starting to develop a culture of systematically using data to improve your results is just to get stuck in. You don’t need a strategy, you need enthusiasm and a willingness and ability to analyse data.

  1. Identify a small area of your work
    1. where you have, or can easily get, data to help you make and monitor improvements
    2. where you feel some commitment to making an improvement
  2. Define the objectives of your improvement – what are you trying to improve, how will it be shown in the numbers?
  3. Using one of the many creative thinking techniques you will find on this website, create some options for making your improvements happen. These are not big scale improvements, they will be small and easily measurable.
  4. Select the best option (you can find out how to do that here (link))
  5. Work out what information you will collect to test whether it has made the difference you are hoping for
  6. Implement the small change
  7. Collect the data and analyse the results

Repeat the above process as often as you like!
